Throughout recent months, tensions in Europe concerning the Koran burnings in Sweden and Denmark, which have resulted in “the most serious security policy situation since the Second World War” according to the Prime Minister of Sweden, seem to be heading in the direction of greater “hate speech” laws. A recent example of this, the AP reports that Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen recently said that, for the purpose of unity, the government of Denmark would, “in very special situations,” make it illegal to “burn a Quran or burn the Torah scroll.” Providing further insight, he said the Cabinet of Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is determined to find “a legal tool” to prohibit such Christian acts. Cp. Acts 19:19 and Luther’s Why the Books of the Pope and His Disciples Were Burned. Ulf Kristersson, the Prime Minister of Sweden, recently indicated that his government is pursuing similar ends.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation called an emergency meeting to discuss the situation.

According to reporting from the BBC, Turkey has called for such evil changes as those being considered in Sweden and Denmark. And CBS News says: “Iran’s response to the Quran burning protests has included thinly veiled threats from the Islamic republic’s highest authority.” It then quotes Iran’s “Supreme Leader” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as saying: “It is the opinion of all Islamic scholars that those who have insulted the Holy Quran deserve the severest punishment.”
